By now everyone has probably seen the picture in Dave Pickering's column of the remains of a dozen schoolie stripers that were filetted at the Charlestown Breachway recently. I won't copy it here because it is extremely disheartening to look at. I'd like to think the culprits were out of state visitors, but who knows for sure. Whoever it is, they need to be caught and banned from fishing in RI (or anywhere for that matter). How could anyone do something like this, especially with news about depreciating striped bass stock.
Dave posted RI DEM Enforcement phone number which I thought was a good idea if anyone needs to update their contacts - 401-222-3070

There's a limited number on DEM staff, we can make them much more effective if we're willing to make a call when we see something or somebody who doesn't respect the rules.

There's a limited number on DEM staff, we can make them much more effective if we're willing to make a call when we see something or somebody who doesn't respect the rules. The problem is that they are too limited in number for the different jurisdictions they cover. If RI was serious there would be more officers in the field. it is discouraging when a report is made and no one shows up. They are spread too thin.

my good friend is a retired warden in ct.. same problem, they charge you more for your license and don't hire more wardens or stock hardly any trout.
